What an achievement! We passed the 1000 mark of COVID-19 cases a day early.
Yay for us.
And this on a day when we find out a cruise ship allowed 2700 passengers to disembark in Sydney after they found over 300 with flu symptoms. Seven were found (after the 2700 dispersed into the Australian wind) to have tested positive.
And the day after a herd of howling monkeys hit Bondi, in defiance of the recent “keep your distance” rules, packing it to the rafters.
The virus doesn’t care who you are. It doesn’t care how old or young you are. It doesn’t care which country you’re from or in. And it’s as infections as fuck. The preventative measure we seem to be taking in Australia are hoarding toilet rolls and potatoes (really) and some “work from home, but party the night away” actions..
At these rates, and this is not a bullshit number, there will be nearly 10,000 cases in Australia by April and 2.5 million by May.
Using the 3.4% mortality rate the WHO has provided, that equates to 340 dead by the end of this month and 85,000 Australians dead by the end of April.
And those who are symptomatic, but survive, will more than likely have compromised lungs for the rest of their lives.
Self isolation isn’t about you. It’s about all of us.
