I noticed I haven’t posted a bloody thing since January, when I bitched about the gym work (I really like it, actually) and it’s like that was just yesterday. Like nothing has happened since then.
And really, it’s been pretty boring. Mostly.
Lincoln (who got 16 stitches for a Christmas present after the neighbour’s dogs took exception to his presence) developed diabetes in February and is going (has pretty much completely gone) blind. We are his seeing-eye persons. I’ve got a vest and everything.
This is him when his eyes still worked. He’s still a happy, playful eight year old puppy, but he runs headlong into laundry baskets and the back fence when he’s chasing magpies and myna birds. Honestly, it’s hilarious and you don’t get in trouble laughing.
He gets an insulin jab twice a day after his meals. I’ve gotten quite good at it. I believe I’m now qualified to give COVID jabs, as long as I can give it to you under the loose skin on the back or your neck.
In other news, I took a great picture of my house a few weeks ago. It was night, just after a light rain. I did nothing to this photo. No filters, no gamma or hue or contrast adjustments. this is how it came out of my phone.
Nothing else about this. I just wanted to share it. I was surprised at how well it came out.
On the writing front, I had been halfway through (almost exactly) the first draft of book number 15 (which I was going to call Number 15 for meta reasons) when I had to shelve it. It was a follow on to The Murder of Jeremy Brookes and dealt with sex/human trafficking and it was getting way too dark for me. I had started writing it just before COVID introduced itself and by the time August came around I wasn’t in the greatest mental place anyway. The book certainly wasn’t helping.
So I started a different story. Much lighter. Corporate theft and the odd murder. Finished the first draft and while I let it simmer I think I’ll go back to the one I shelved and see if I can resuscitate it. I’ll have to call it Number 16 now.
Other than that, I’m like the rest of the population of the world…waiting impatiently for every Friday to come along.
So I can watch another episode of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
